  1. When was the QIA established?
    In 2005. It builds on the heritage of Qatari investments dating back more than 3 decades.

  2. Who runs the QIA?
    The QIA is chaired by H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The Chief Executive is H.E. Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al Thani. Other Board Members include H.E. Sheikh Abdulla bin Saud Al Thani, H.E. Yousef Hussain Kamal, Dr Hussain Al Abdulla and H.E Sheikh Fahad bin Jassim Mohamed Al Thani. The Board of the QIA has extensive financial experience and exists to serve the government and people of Qatar by strengthening the Qatari economy.

  3. What is the purpose of the QIA?
    The QIA exists to serve the government and people of Qatar by strengthening the Qatari economy. It does this by making investments in different asset classes and geographies, thereby diversifying the economy and its financial resources. The QIA also monitors and manages its investments according to the returns generated.

  4. Where do the funds for QIA investments come from?
    The funds come from the State of Qatar.

  5. What is the relationship between the QIA and the Qatari government?
    The QIA is a world class investment institution which adheres to the strictest commercial disciplines and which is owned by and invests on behalf of the State of Qatar.

  6. What criteria does the QIA use when assessing potential investments?
    The QIA does not publish its investment criteria but the criteria are based on the imperative of generating a strong financial return. The QIA takes a flexible approach, is a long-term investor, has a conservative approach to leverage, and can be considered a truly global investor. It uses sophisticated analytical tools and leverages its network of financial intermediaries to draw down extensive market research and data.

  7. What regions does the QIA consider suitable for investment?
    The QIA takes a flexible approach to investing and has interests across a wide range of geographies and in different asset classes including listed securities, property, alternative assets and private equity. If a portfolio company has synergies with Qatar, it is a positive factor. But the QIA should be considered a truly global investor.

  10. Do you publish financial information about your investments?
    As is usual with many global investment institutions which are not listed on the public markets, the QIA does not publish financial information. We are acknowledged, however, as a well resourced, responsible investor, as manifested by our track record of transactions.

    The QIA takes ethical considerations very seriously and such issues are always taken into account when selecting investment opportunities.
